Benjamin Cabey
Ben's Corner @ Poetry on Main honors the memory of my dear mentor and friend, Papa Ben. He was a pioneering champion in advocating for Black and LGBT artists in Utah. A native of New York City, Ben was a graduate of University of Utah's Master of Social Work, a Poet, Spoken Word Artist, Painter, Saxophonist, and lover of life. Learn more about his legacy here.

My WHY
I am a Domestic Abuse Survivor who also survived the death of my infant daughter. Such life altering events have pushed me out of my shell. Although I began writing at the age of 13 in my homeland of Haiti, I didn't begin to write in English until I moved to the US and took Creative Writing courses in college. The year 2012 is when I started writing again and sharing about my journey as an immigrant and survivor in order to empower other women and minorities through my poetry collections.
